One Citizens Plaza is the "Signature Building" of the Capital Center District and was developed by Marsella Development Corporation in the late 1980s and opened in June of 1990. The current President & CEO of MPM, John Macliver, played an integral role in both the development and construction of this site. Subsequent to the opening of the building, both John Macliver and William Cormier, Vice President of MPM, have been involved in the design, development and construction of all leasehold improvements. Subsequent to joining Marsella in 1988, John Macliver was directly involved with the restoration of Union Station, the construction of One Citizens Plaza and several tenant fit-up projects. Some of the more notable are the Citizens Bank space at One Citizens Plaza, the Capital Grille, Union Station Brewery, as well as many other tenant spaces.
From 1997 through 2000, along with his property management responsibilities, John Macliver spearheaded the design, development and construction of the SpringHill Suites by Marriott in West Warwick, Rhode Island and the Union Station Plaza project in Providence. Union Station Plaza consists of a 216-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel built over a 370 car parking garage. These two projects totaled nearly $30 million in construction and development costs.
